These very short pieces were inspired by Seth Vincent's daily song sketches from November. With these pieces, I have tried to compose by my sense of the music; not by the help of lyrics and not with the forced structure of a complete song. I hope these fragments will help me learn to compose better songs for HAIN five. I've written short reviews/descriptions of each fragment. (As of this posting, some pieces don't yet have descriptions.) To read those reviews, click the link below and then click the right-pointing arrow at the far right of any song title. I've uploaded a new set to SOUNDCLOUD: eighteen short and simple piano pieces. I've been practicing them too long. Time to put them to rest. They are all found in a book which I bought over a year ago at the Visiting Nurses thrift store in Centralia, Washington. I'm not trying to become a piano teacher; the book has merely fit my ability level and provided me some nice songs to learn. I recorded them the best I could and mixed them on Sennheiser headphones that may be somewhat treble-heavy. Turn down the bass if it's inappropriate. I also applied some noise reduction with Cool Edit Pro. Please tell me if you can hear digital artifacting.

LOSING LIES
By now, this is old news: I drew three strips for Charlie Daugherty's online (and print) comic, Losing Lies. You can see my comics by clicking here, then clicking the "previous" button three times. Charlie updates his comic blog every day. You might also find print collections of Losing Lies in comic stores around the midwest (especially in Seattle and Olympia). I'm a fan.

SUNDANCE KIDS
My last recordings with Shelby and Erin may soon go public. Before I left Olympia, Shelby and I visited Bellhead Recording Studio to record some overdubs. I think Shelby and Evan plan to finalize the songs and create a music product. I hope so. I like these songs, and they include my only real creative work with the band.

YOUR DAILY HOUR WITH ME
~~My second appearance on Your Daily Hour With Me has yet to appear on YouTube. I believe it will be episode #364. Anyhow, the appearance wasn't too eventful, and I won't mention it again.~~ My second appearance on the show was actually #354. It's up now. Kenny posted a link in the comments below.

CURRENT WORK
I've been learning the program GameMaker, with the intention of designing some small video games. And I've agreed to write a book of short stories, which Joel and Timeless, Infinite Light in California will publish for me.

I've packaged it nicely and would prefer it not to be listened to while sitting at a computer. I've uploaded it, nonetheless, because I think more people will hear it this way.

HAIN 4 E.P.

AGAIN!

This short set of songs documents my musical work over the past four months. It includes some songs I've posted previously on this blog and some songs I haven't. Most of these songs were written in the same manner as others like "Hilarity Ensues" and "The Other Parts" from HAIN 2. However, all but one of these songs are fully instrumented, unlike those. Lots of piano, plucked guitar, and glockenspiel appear on this album. These are also my cleanest recordings to date. I'm beginning to define my lyrical sense: basically a form of storytelling, filled with dubious and conflicted characters, and often mocking popular wisdom. I'm posting about this little album again, because I felt very disappointed by it when I posted initially. Since then, I've rerecorded some parts and completely redone one song. Now I can confidently say that this E.P. is my best work. I'm making twenty-five copies. If you want one, just ask.

APOCRYPHAL TEXTS and THE BOOK OF ELAN

I've just completed the first copy of my Apocryphal Texts & The Book Of Elan. It looks fantastic!—thanks in part to some classy burgundy book cloth from OREGONARTSUPPLY.COM and brightly colored, completely non-pixelated dust jackets printed at Olympia Copy & Printing. I estimate that each copy of this book costs me about eight dollars, plus four hours of work (spread over four or five days). I've priced the book at $10 in the Wylonuts catalog, and I'd be happy to receive money for copies; but, more importantly, people who will read and care for the book—i.e., not drop it in rain puddles or quickly turn it over to Goodwill—should get copies. Let me know if you want one . . . then be patient.
